What is Reverse Osmosis?
Reverse osmosis is a water purification process that utilizes a semi-permeable membrane to remove impurities, contaminants, and particles from water. In simple terms, it’s like a microscopic sieve that allows only pure water molecules to pass through, leaving behind unwanted substances.
How Does it Work?
At the heart of a reverse osmosis system is the semi-permeable membrane, which acts as a barrier to contaminants. Water is forced through this membrane under pressure, and as it passes through, impurities such as bacteria, viruses, minerals, and pollutants are effectively filtered out. The result is clean, crisp water that is safe for human and animal consumption.
Benefits of a Reverse Osmosis System:
While a reverse osmosis system has great benefits there are a few things we want you to be aware of. The reverse osmosis system filters out all minerals so if you’re used to drinking mineralized water you may want to add minerals. We include a mineral filter that contains calcium. Ask our plumbers for more information regarding mineralization.
Additionally, there is an impact on water usage. To clean the water, the reverse osmosis system typically uses three gallons of water to make one gallon of pure water.
